129 flaws found in Microsoft’s latest update

Microsoft Windows updates

Microsoft’s latest software patch update has seen a huge number of flaws – 129 in total, 23 of which were critical.  However, it’s safe to say of those flaws, none are being used by computer hackers, which should give us some comfort.  Although they’re not actively being used, it’s not to say they couldn’t be.

Microsoft have confirmed that the flaws hit a variety of their products, namely Windows, SharePoint, Dynamics, and Office 365.  One of the most serious found was in SharePoint, where it could allow remote code execution and in Exchange Server, which could allow criminals to hack in, take over and execute code for a malicious email sent to an affected server.

It would appear this level of flaws is becoming a regular occurrence, but is there a reason for it?

With more remote workers than ever before and it looking likely for the foreseeable future, the large number of updates could become more of a problem for businesses supporting those remote workers.  The advice is to keep monitoring the administration rights for your employees on their workstations (users who do not have full administrative rights pose less of a risk than a user with full rights to a system) to ensure the risk of accidently clicking on a malicious link or webpage is reduced.
